CALL FOR HELP

Disruption of civil life in the form of a hideous and senseless war started in Sierra Leone in 1991. This has resulted in untold hardship and trauma in the form of loss of life, maiming, abuse of women and children and wilful damage to properties and infrastructures. No part of the country or family have been spared.

The first attack on the Campus was in December 1995 and there have been three subsequent attacks resulting in its relocation to the capital Freetown since 1996 on a temporary basis. The attacks resulted in ca. 15 deaths, some adductions and massive destruction of its infrastructure, equipment and other assets. As a further consequent of the war many of the college’s highly trained and skilled academics have left Sierra Leone for opportunities elsewhere. Hence a key factor in the drop in staff numbers over the last few years.

The Peace Agreement on July 7, 1999 in Lome, Togo stopped the war activities. The Government taking cognisance of this and the role Njala University plays in the human resources development of the country has been nudging us to put in place plans for a return to our permanent site.

This has prompted the development of a phased rehabilitation / reconstruction plan estimated at USD 58m. The Government is expected to help us source for a good chunk of this estimate while we also make
approaches here and there to sell bits and pieces of the plan to the donor community.

Also afoot are plans for the establishment of a faculty of Veterinary Medicine , expansion into new academic Departments of Forestry, Food Technology and Nutrition, Fisheries and Horticulture in the faculty of Agriculture and the start of a 12 Calendar Masters by taught courses in addition to the other Postgraduate programmes already in existence.

As our resources are limited, we cannot solely on our own cope with these developments. To achieve our aims and realize our dreams we need your help. We therefore request for your  support to enable us rebuild our University.

Your generous donations will help us bring our dreams to fruition.

We thank you in anticipation of your generosity and kind consideration.
